University of Bedfordshire launch celebrations

The University of Bedfordshire is proud to be runner up for the coveted title of University of the Year in the Times Higher Education Supplement awards.

One of only five short listed universities, our nomination is particularly impressive as it reflects just how much we have achieved in our first year.

Since our successful launch in August 2006, we have built on our key strengths of quality teaching, state-of-the-art facilities, outstanding student support and employability and as a result, have enjoyed a 41.2 per cent rise in application figures to UCAS.

It is this massive rise in applications that has so impressed the Times Higher judging panel, along with our Grade 1 Ofsted report, multi-million pound investment programme, innovative Business Pod facilities and our generous bursaries and scholarships

Some more highlights include:

League table success

The National Student Survey placed the University 28th in the country for student satisfaction, as well as ranking Journalism fifth in the country, Law seventh, Business 15th and Marketing 16th
Bedfordshire leapt 24 places in The Times Good University Guide – one of the biggest jumps recorded in 2007, ranking it 84th
The Guardian placed the University third in the country for media-related courses and 13th for Sport. Its teacher training league table placed Bedfordshire 30th in the country – up six places from last year.
The Good University Guide, sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers, placed hospitality subjects 28th in the country
The Sunday Times has placed Bedfordshire in 98th position out of 123 institutions - a rise of six places from last year
It’s also the first year the University achieved a top score (grade one) from Ofsted for Initial Teacher Training

£8m PE and Sport Science Centre - set to train 2012 Olympic athletes
£20m halls of residence with 500 en-suite study bedrooms
£6m Campus Centre housing dance studios and a 280-seat theatre, to be officially opened by His Royal Highness, the Earl of Wessex on 22 October
£1.2m Business Pods, unique in the UK, with work and chill-out areas, brainstorming and meeting rooms
