- About Us
At the University of Bedfordshire we are committed to working in partnership with our students to create an effective and supportive learning environment tailored to meeting the individual needs. As well as providing a current and lively curriculum we focus on students' personal development and preparation for life beyond university.
We provide challenging and innovative teaching and learning opportunities supported by the use of technology. Our students are given support in considering how they can improve their learning and structured opportunities to put this into action.
Our curricula are designed to help students explore possible career aspirations and to prepare them not just for their current or first post but for lifelong learning and employment in the modern and dynamic global workplace.
The University of Bedfordshire has an excellent teaching
record based on its outstanding performance in
official inspections conducted by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) and other external agencies. It has received ‘excellent’ scores in a number of
subjects including Sport, Media, Design, Education and Nursing.
The University was
named best new university for the quality of its teaching by The Sunday Times in 2004 - for the second
year running and continues to maintain its reputation for the relevance of its curriculum and the quality of its teaching. In the National Student Survey, students consistently rank the university above most others for the quality of its teaching and for its focus on personal development and learning.

In a competitive bidding process across the sector and in recognition of our record in teaching excellence, the University was granted £3.3 million over five years by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) in 2005 to create a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL).
The Bridges CETL opened its doors in early 2006 and attracts international attention because of its distinctive approach to supporting the personalised learning of students, delivering a relevant and responsive curriculum and providing an active and engaging learning experience.
Bridges supports making links between students' past experiences and their studies, supporting their development whilst at university and preparing them for life beyond university. Bridges is opening up opportunities and possibilities not just for our students and tutors but for businesses and the local community through the relevance and responsiveness of our courses.
