Dr Mark Glaister

"I am a Senior lecturer in Exercise Physiology at St Mary’s College, University of Surrey."

Mark came to the University of Luton through Clearing and says it was the best move he ever made.

He said: “I can’t praise the University, and my particular course, enough. The subject area was perfect for me, the lecturers were superb and I can honestly say that it changed my life.”

After leaving Luton, Mark worked in Sports Development with his local council, teaching sports such as tennis, basketball and athletics to junior school children. He then went on to gain a Studentship from the University of Edinburgh to study for a PhD in Exercise Physiology from which he graduated in 2003.

“While I was in Edinburgh I was fortunate to work with many athletes, offering physiological support in the form of training advice and fitness testing,” he said.

Mark was also the physiologist for the Scottish Women’s Lacrosse Squad and the Scottish Badminton Squad. He has been at St Mary’s College at the University of Surrey as senior lecturer in exercise physiology since 2002 and has had six scientific research articles published.

He added: “I made lots of friends at Luton and in 2003 I cycled the route of the Tour de France with one of them, so we spent a lot of time reminiscing! Based on my own experience, I can’t imagine a better place to study than Luton.”

Interview took place in 2005.
