"I am now a Marketing Manager within the construction industry."
Steve works for Constructing Excellence, a DTI initiative to promote best practice within the UK construction industry.
It’s his role to manage all the organisation’s communications to the construction industry and that means talking to a diverse audience ranging from the Chairman of Balfour Beatty to building site operatives.
Steve loves the sheer scope of what he does now. "I used to be Marketing Manager for one company – now I’m communicating to a whole industry," he said. He manages communications across a range of different media, oversees various projects, and, of course, keeps an eye on the budgets.
Steve says his marketing degree has proved to be an ideal preparation for what he does now. "People sometimes question how much of their degree graduates really use when they get out into the real world. In my case the answer is, all of it, all of the time."
Steve greatly enjoyed his time at Luton. "The course I did was fantastic. All the modules I did were very practical and very well taught."
Since leaving, Steve has taken his Marketing education further, achieving Chartered Marketer status with the CIM. He also sits on the CIMCIG committee (Chartered Institute of Marketing Construction Industry Group).
While he was at University, Steve was an officer in the Territorial Army. He left in 2000, having served seven years, but still enjoys outdoor pursuits, particularly hill walking, when he has the chance.
Steve still lives in Luton and is married to fellow Luton graduate Joy (née Adderley), who graduated in Media Studies in 2000, and now works for Whitbread.
