A 2008 graduate of Media and Arts has a story of success to tell having two projects at hand; a play and a film.
The play 'Bilaath', a Bengali word for England, to be broadcast this summer on BBC Three Counties Radio, is also supported by Luton Voices, a community group that deals with problems of immigrants in Luton.
'Bilaath' is set in Bangladesh during the 1971 war of liberation from Pakistan. It highlights the situation of Bangladeshi women during the war through focusing on the life of one woman.
Ejel's second
project is the adaptation of “The First Ark to Alpha Centauri” a
bestselling science fiction novel by the Luton-based writer, and fellow alumnus, Abdul Ahad. The two
established their own company, A&E Media Group, based at the hat Factory in
Luton.
Ejel is looking for actors among university students for both the film and the play.
While he was a student he was given the opportunity to gain work experience and now he wants to “give something back” because gaining expertise while studying had been very beneficial and had “opened up doors for work.” He greatly appreciates the opportunities the University has given him since graduating.
Describing his choice to study at the University of Bedfordshire Ejel says: “I wanted to study Media and I knew that the University of Bedfordshire is among the ‘top three universities in the UK for Media studies’. I was lucky to have it here at my doorstep. A lot of my classmates used to travel daily from London. ”
About his University activities, Ejel says that he did a lot when he was a volunteer with Local News TV, a web based TV channel, and this has given him a lot of experience and a network of relations that helped him after graduation. He also played a part in a film produced by a, then, MA student.
Ejel's family and friends appreciate his work because it highlights the problems of the Asian Moslem community in the UK.
