“I am an Advertising Manager for DC Thomson.”
Gareth transferred onto a foundation degree course at Luton in early 1993 and says it was the best decision he ever made. Not only was it an exciting time for him but also the College as it was just going through the final stages of obtaining University status.
He enjoyed the Social Studies course and says it was interesting and varied. He also had good relationships with his lecturers, in particular, his personal tutor, Steve Brindle and Roger Woods.
Gareth has many great memories of his time at Luton, too numerous to mention He said: “Some of the highlights have been DJing in the Underground with DJ Don Newville and DJ Bernie on a Saturday night; living in Milliners Way Student Halls from 1993-94; the May Ball at Luton Hoo in 1994 when Bjorn Again were headlining; and the 1996 June semi-final England vs Germany when we watched the match on the big screen in the Student Union – I’ve never experienced such emotion since!”
After completing his degree, Gareth worked as a Holiday Rep in Ibiza from 1998-2000. He got his first break in advertising sales with a company called Showtime Media and was then headhunted by a company called McMillan Scott Plc based in London in 2002. For the last two years Gareth has been Advertising Manager at DC Thomson. He looks after the advertising sales for publications which varies from the Beano to Peoples Friend.
In the future, Gareth hopes to progress in his career and marry his fiancée, Rachel.
