“I am currently working for Haymarket Publishing on the recruitment section of its marketing website www.brandrepublic.com.”
After graduating from the University of Bedfordshire (Luton campus), Craig went job hunting and signed up with an agency specifically dealing with the media industry. He had interviews with two companies before being offered a post at Haymarket Publishing. Craig joined Haymarket as a graduate trainee sales executive based, in Hammersmith.
“My training was brilliant and the company offers training throughout your career which is great. My initial role was to sell space in our directories. I then was promoted onto Brand Republic which is by far the best marketing web site in the market.
“I am required to deal with clients who want to post their marketing jobs on the website, as well as in Haymarket’s print titles -Campaign, Marketing, Media Week and PR Week. It was hard to start off with in directories as it’s a hard sell but I soon found my feet and was chosen to design the training manual for new starters.
“I was really thrilled as Haymarket is renowned for their training so this will be great for my CV,” he said.
“Since I graduated, I have been dedicated to moving up in the media industry. I am looking to move into selling display ads on the web site and then into a director role looking at earning a six-figure salary by the time I hit thirty - I’m twenty two now so I’m definitely on schedule!
“My Business Administration course was very thorough and covered everything I needed to be successful in business. It has definitely helped in my career - even the subjects that I thought I would never use have helped me progress.”
Craig chose to study at the University of Bedfordshire (Luton campus) after a friend recommended the business courses as they were designed with the business world in mind and the lecturers were really helpful.
“The lecturers were by far the best as they understand students’ needs and are willing to take time to explain and help you understand the subject.
“My fondest memories are of the Student Union and of staying up late getting assignments completed! I also enjoyed working in groups on assignments.
“For anyone reading this, just remember that if you have confidence in what you want to do and in yourself then you will do it. Employers always look for confidence so its important to have faith in your abilities and you will get this at the University of Bedfordshire.”
