Ioannis Michaletos: MSc Human Resource Management

Ioannis Michaletos

MSc Human Resource Management, 2003

Ioannis

“I am an Associate Consultant for Tetras-consult and also a Teacher.”

Ioannis came from his home in Greece to study MSc Human Resource Management at the University of Luton. He felt that both his course and the university had some unique advantages that you rarely find in other institutions. He said: “Firstly, the diversity of the students and the blending of differing mentalities, experiences and cultures, provided me with the knowledge and stimuli to adapt to the environment.”

He was also impressed with the facilities at Putteridge Bury as well as the lectures, which he said were friendly and informal, yet very practical and relevant. Lastly, he very much enjoyed life in Luton and said: “I believe it is one of the most energetic places in Britain as far as economic prospects and social dynamics are concerned.”

“The town has lots of advantages for an international student: it is close to London and has good transport links; it has a diverse student population; it has very good facilities and the fees are very competitive.”

After completing his degree Ioannis returned to Greece where after a short term of employment joined the Hellenic Navy to serve his military obligations. He was a petty officer which he says was a hard but useful experience where he learned to cope in stressful conditions. After that he became a member of a development NGO called ‘European network of experts and technology brokers’ who were involved in planning and securing projects for African states in the areas of humanitarian support and infrastructure development.

Ioannis has been in his current job as an Associate Consultant for Tetras-consult for the last 10 months. His work involves research and consultancy in the fields of organisational change and information management, targeted mainly at SMEs in the Greek private sector. He also recently became a teacher for a state high school and teaches social skills and development.

In the future he would like to work in an international field, outside Europe, possibly in New Zealand.

Interview took place in 2005.
