Both are now teachers at a secondary school in Brunei.
Joel Moncherry met his wife Angela Lim at the University of Luton and their lives were changed forever. Joel, from the Seychelles, returned home after graduating with his student love, then they went to make their life together in Angela’s home country, Brunei.
They have both taught at a local secondary school for three years, Joel teaches Biology, Angela teaches Geography. They have two children aged three and one and Joel is now studying part-time for a PhD in Freshwater Ecology at the University of Brunei.
He said: “There is not a day that I do not think of the University of Luton. It was
a wonderful experience. I would like to go back one day just to see the place one more time. I love Luton.

“The people were wonderful and very kind, the lecturers were so helpful. I was very glad that I chose the University as the place to study – I chose Luton from all the prospectuses I sent for when I was at home in the Seychelles.
“As well as my degree of course, it gave me my wife and children. It was love across the lecture rooms after only four months. That was where we met, it was inevitable as most of our modules were the same.”
“I worked at Luton Airport for a year after graduating and then we were married in the Seychelles and moved to Brunei.
“We both enjoy teaching here and I am in the first year of my PhD. I hope eventually I will be able to use that to get a post at the University and take part in research which I enjoy.”
Interview took place in 2004.
