Mohammad Razzaq: BA Hons Psychology and Social Studies

Mohammad Razzaq

BA Hons Psychology and Social Studies, 1995

Mohammad Razzaq

"I am a Financial Analyst for the Royal Bank of Scotland."

Like many students, joining the University of Luton was Mohammad Razzaq's first experience of living away from home.

Originally from Birmingham, the 31 year old financial analyst admittedly took some time to find his feet, but quickly developed a taste for University living and a thirst for travel.

"It was difficult to start with, but I found the University to have a great support network and there were a lot of other students from all over the country in a similar position to me. Fortunately, I had a few friends living in the area which helped a lot and after the first few weeks it was great - a real community environment."

On graduating, Mohammad spent some time deciding where his future lay. He reflected: "I started a Masters course but after a few months realised that it wasn't really for me. I worked in a number of different industries, including catering and hospitality, but still didn't feel comfortable with what I was doing, although I did meet my wife-to-be, Claire, while working for Thistle Hotels in Birmingham where she worked part-time while studying.

"I decided to move into finance and banking and joined Nat West bank in 2000. I moved from Birmingham to Manchester where I became a Graduate Manager. Having been a student myself I found I could relate to my customers well and got a lot of satisfaction from being able to offer sound advice to students and graduates seeking help with their finances."

"Claire and I recently relocated to Dunfermline in Scotland to work at Nat West's parent company, the Royal Bank of Scotland."

"I still keep in contact with a few friends from University and will be seeing them again soon, as Claire and I are getting married in May. We are both keen travellers and plan to spend a lot of time visiting countries like South Africa, Egypt and Borneo, which is where we will be spending our honeymoon."

Interview took place in 2005.
