“I am a Logistics Administrator with an international humanitarian organisation in Nigeria.”
Adamu came to the UK in 1999 and embarked on the MSc Marketing Management at the University of Luton. He found Luton was a great place to be and the perfect environment for studying as well as a great social scene. He said: “I enjoyed it so much that I recommend the University to friends and family in Nigeria all the time. My brother is currently studying there!
“I found the course academically rigorous and constantly related to real life business experiences through the use of case studies which was interesting and new to me.”
Adamu found the lecturers very approachable and friendly, he said: “I had an informal relationship with most of the lecturers unlike in Africa were we have very formal relationships with our teachers.”
Adamu particularly enjoyed living and studying with people from different parts of the world. He said: “I shared a house with three Chinese students and I am still in touch with them today.”
After graduating from Luton, Adamu returned to Nigeria and started a job as a Marketing Manager for an IT firm. He feels his degree helped him in many ways, he said: “It has certainly given me an edge over many of my school mates here in Nigeria in my career and also enabled me to build new relationships and feel more prepared and confident for future management roles.”
For the last 10 months Adamu has been working for Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), an international humanitarian organisation, as a Logistics Administrator. He is responsible for management of the Logistics-Administration system at the Head Office in Abuja, Nigeria. Adamu made the move to MSF to develop in the area of logistics.
In the future he hopes to succeed in all aspects of his career and develop further by acquiring the relevant skills to help him.
