"I work for BBC Digital Text."

BBC Digital Text is like the modern day Ceefax, where you're encouraged to "hit the red button" and Paul Woloszyn, is a man behind the scenes.

Paul explained: "At Digitext I have a whole range of duties, from monitoring and managing the content which goes on air, to writing TV and web guides. I even have to write science and health stories, which is certainly something I wouldn't have envisaged doing this time five years ago!"

"By far the most enjoyable part of the job has been working on the BBC Sport interactive services though. Over the last couple of years I have covered the Commonwealth Games, World Cup, FA Cup and Six Nations rugby. Being a sports fanatic, this has been great fun!"

He added: "I always wanted to work in journalism in some way or another and my degree from Luton in Modern English has helped me a lot."

"There were some great modules available throughout the course, which we had the option of choosing from to supplement the main part of the course."

"I opted for more journalism based modules and some of our tutors had worked within journalism so they really knew the business. It also made us more receptive knowing that the lecturers knew what they were talking about from first hand experience."

"I went onto study for my NCTJ qualifications and worked freelance a local paper in Walthamstow, where I'm from, whilst I was studying."

"I wrote about sport although I dipped into all areas which was a great learning experience. Once I'd finished my course, I went to work for a football website for a while, and then I started at the BBC."

"When I started at the BBC, I was working freelance at Ceefax Sport and then moved on to BBC Digital Text. I've been there for two years now and the highlight has got to be being nominated for a BAFTA for our interactive service during the 2002 World Cup, which was a great honour!"

"I really enjoyed my time at Luton - the course was diverse, offering modules in radio, journalism and fanzines, to mention a few!"

Interview took place in 2004.
