Luton-based electrical engineers and contractors, Instalec, has become the first company to take advantage of our internship scheme and will benefit from the skills and services of a graduate for up to three months.
Instalec has chosen Animesh Chowdhury, a University of Bedfordshire graduate with a BSc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, to work as a marketing and advertising developer. Managing Director Paul Jones had identified that the company’s marketing and advertising needed some new initiatives to help increase their market share and develop into new sectors. He felt that having a full-time, dedicated member of staff concentrating their efforts solely on the development of advertising and marketing strategies for the future was exactly what the business needed. This internship scheme made this an affordable possibility. We’ll be returning to Paul and Animesh as the internship progresses.
The scheme, which is part of the national Backing Young Britain campaign, offers local companies an extra and high calibre resource at a heavily subsidised rate and finds quality placements for graduates seeking work experience.
We now have 74 internship places to offer local businesses. Graduates are paid the national minimum wage and the employer will be subsidised by the University to reduce this cost significantly. Funding is provided by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). The internships last between eight and twelve weeks.
For more information and to register for the scheme email: knowledge@beds.ac.uk or visit www.beds.ac.uk/knowledgehub/internship

Do you need funding for a research or development project? If so, grant funding could be your answer. The East of England Development Agency’s (EEDA) extensive grant funding programme includes £5.5m from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) that is ring-fenced to invest in the Research and Development (R&D) of technology-led solutions for a low carbon future.
As with the core programme, grants range from £5,000 to £250,000 and are awarded to entrepreneurs or companies wishing to develop a prototype or investigate the feasibility of an innovative technology.
EEDA’s green grants panel meets every
fortnight to evaluate applications, and they’ve already approved £1m of funding
so far this year. So don’t delay.
