Making the bridge between the curriculum and the world beyond undergraduate study, whether that is employment or further study, was the focus for this aspect of Bridges’ work. Employability is seen as an integral part of the curriculum through the skills and attributes that are fostered and the ways in which students are exposed to real world scenarios and experiences. But its not just bringing the real world into the curriculum, it’s also about how students engage with and reflect on these experiences – how they see the relevance to them and their chosen futures.
Employability is a core value of the University and enhancing employability was a core aim of the Bridges CETL. Bridges contributed to the first Employability Strategy developed specifically for
the University of
Bedfordshire, which sets
out an holistic, institution-wide approach to enhancing the
employability and
personal development of students.
In this section you can also find information about using Assessment Centre and projects that Bridges supported in this area. The Bridges strand on
Assessment Centres aimed to prepare students so that they can
demonstrate the requisite skills and attributes in their final year in
readiness for employment after graduation. To strengthen the University's links with employers and to enable students to study in a professional environment, where they could gain 'hands-on' experience and skills, Bridges supported the developments in Work-based Learning.
Here you can also find reports of a variety of Bridges employability focused projects and explore other employability resources such as STARS, My Success, and the 'First Impressions Count' DVD.
