First Impressions Count DVD

First Impressions Count DVD

'First Impressions Count' – is a DVD that was produced to help students through first stages of interview preparation, with four students from differing subject disciplines getting ready for a range of graduate job and work placement interviews. It deals with issues such as dress code, body language and how to demonstrate confidence.

Students often ask questions around job interviews, such as, " what should i wear?", what is the right way to sit?, should I shake hands or wait to be offered?"...etc. The Centre for Personal and Career Development (now Careers and Employment Service), with Bridges CETL funding, commissioned a local Media company, Clearhead Media, and employed the services of an Image Consultant, Gail Morgan from the Image House to produce a "Trinny and Suzannah" short film to show how to make that "good" first impression. Four Media Performance students were recruited, following auditions, to act as students from differing subject disciplines who were getting ready for a range graduate job interviews.

The result is an exciting and stimulating 19 minute DVD entitled First Impressions Count. To see the video, visit: http://ltss.beds.ac.uk/careers/first_impressions/

The DVD was distributed to other HEIs and has already achieved a positive response. Careers Advisers have used the DVD in their careers in the curriculum activities with students and added it as a streaming video to Careers BREO site. They see it as a useful addition to their already extensive online tools and materials.
