The main Bridges outcomes can be expressed in two
words: CRe8 and SOAR!
Together they represent the focus of Bridges’ work. CRe8 and SOAR (view PDF card) link the theoretical (what we know about student learning) with the practical (providing the conditions that enable effective learning to happen).
The Curriculum Review for implementation in 2008 (CRe8) articulates our approach to
creating an environment, which supports effective teaching and learning.
CRe8 draws on the views of staff and students across the University
and perceived good practice in the sector. It identifies five inter-related
strands designed to engage and motivate students, and prepare them for further
study and life beyond the University:
Further information on CRe8 can be accessed via the CRe8 page on the T&L Directorate website.
Creating CRe8 has been achieved through CETL Fellows and Associates working in teams, individual and collaborative funded projects across all faculties, staff away-days and student involvement.

The
main difference embodied in this approach is a shift from a teacher-centric
mode of delivery to a student-centred process of
personalised learning and development, integrated into the curriculum so that it is experienced by all students.
Integrated into CRe8 is the SOAR process - Self, Opportunity,
Aspirations and Results are key words of the
SOAR process. SOAR is a student-centred process for integrating personal,
academic and career development. This process enables students to identify and
develop a range of ‘graduate skills and attributes’, moving towards
professionalism and self-regulation.
The book resulting from the 2009 Bridges CETL Writing Retreat was first publication. 'Creating Bridges' is a collection of 16 chapters written by practitioners across the University of Bedfordshire and is about how the Curriculum Review 2008 (CRe8) has been implemented in many different areas.

Is the second publication created from a compilation of chapters from the 2010 Bridges CETL Writing Retreat.
