Summary
This course is most suitable for students with no formal background in the area of computing or information systems, but with some prior academic achievement in the area of computing or information systems.
That is to say, to take advantage of the award students need to have a substantial knowledge of a non-computing related discipline so they can apply computing and information technologies to the field in which their prior learning lies.
The course is designed for individuals who require not simply a broad overview of information management and security but significant technical knowledge and proficiency in the particular area of study (see below).
There is also a focus on research methodologies, including issues relating to ethics, legal aspects and professional applications of information systems development, risk assessment and risk management.
There are two modes of delivery:
Full-time, primarily for graduates wishing to expand their existing skills in information management and security related technologies.
Part-time, primarily for those currently wishing to enhance their knowledge and continue education to a higher level.

On successful completion of the MSc Information Management and Security, you will be equipped with a sound understanding of the various methods and techniques used in the area of information management and security.
Your skills will include high practical skills that are much sought after in the business world and will allow you to pursue a career in the areas such as information architecture, data modelling design, information security and network management.
Graduates will leave to become practitioners and/or specialist consultants in the expanding area of information management and security.

This course is divided into 3 blocks of study material, with the taught modules delivered in the first two blocks, Block A and Block B, with Block C being the Dissertation.

Entry requirements
The MSc in Information Management and Security is most suitable for graduates who have a sound computing knowledge but with no formal background in the area of computing or information systems.
For standard entry, applicants should have a good honours degree or equivalent qualifications, or a post-graduate qualification, in a science related subject area, with a significant (generally one third or more) element in computing.
Example subjects may be first awards in physics, mathematics, information science/systems, electronics or computer engineering.
Professionals or employees only wishing to pursue CPD via our Postgraduate individual taught modular scheme are also allowed to enrol for a Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate.
For mature applicants with non-standard academic profiles, entry and exemption on the basis of Accreditation by Prior Learning, certificated or experiential (APL/APEL) is available.
Special entry requirements
For international students, evidence of sufficient skill in English is required, with a minimum requirement being an IELTS score of 6.0, a TOEFL score of 580, or an equivalent score in TELAS, the University of Bedfordshire's own testing scheme.
Attendance
Part-time study can be taken in the form of a day-release programme for students starting in January/February, or as evening classes, typically starting at 6.30pm, for two evenings a week, for students starting in September.
