Summary
This programme offers the opportunity to become a first class Dance Teacher at secondary level. Students undertake at least 120 days of practical school placement and are expected to receive £4000 training bursary* paid during their course.
During the course, students attend subject specific sessions, lectures and seminars designed to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding required to teach Dance in secondary schools.
The teaching builds on students existing knowledge about Dance, encouraging them to explore ways of translating this to allow pupils to become competent in Dance.
In addition, students develop an awareness and understanding of general professional issues and explore the role of Dance in relation to the National Curriculum, GCSE and A level specifications.
This course is offered for assessment at two levels. You will either be assessed for, and awarded, the Postgraduate Certificate in Education with QTS and 60 Master’s Level Credits or the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education with QTS and 60 Level 3 Credits.
The University works in partnership with local schools to provide students with a programme that has a predominantly professional focus.
Students undertake two placements in different schools, at least one of which includes A level dance, in addition to an observation practice in a primary school. Whilst in the school placements, trainees are supported by teachers who have extensive experience in Dance.
