What we do

Research

If you would like to consult CRELLA on any of our areas of interest, or if you are interested in studying with us, please contact us

CRELLA is actively engaged in research into various aspects of language test validity.

Currently members of CRELLA are working on projects in the UK, Japan, China, Italy, and Turkey.

PhD and MA by Research supervision

We wish to attract outstanding research students in the areas of language assessment and learning and so build on the strong base of the many PhD students already registered at CRELLA.

We offer PhD and MA by Research supervision in the fields of English language learning, testing, and evaluation. CRELLA offers supervision to research students registering in the University of Bedfordshire or at their home university.

We encourage PhD and MA by Research students to carry out research within a coherent theoretical framework developed by CRELLA.

Consultancies

Members of CRELLA undertake consultancies in all aspects of language testing and evaluation throughout the world.

See Consultancies for further details.

Assessing writing

CRELLA hosts Assessing Writing, a refereed international journal providing a forum for ideas, research and practice on the assessment of written language.

The CRELLA library and archive

From our involvement in many projects in Asia, Europe, South America and Africa over the last 25 years, extensive collections of seminal articles in the fields of reading, listening, speaking, writing and general proficiency have been established. As a member of the English Profile, we have an extensive collection of material relating to the development of the Common European Framework for Languages including an archive of papers from John Trim, co-author of the Threshold series.

These materials are in addition to the well-stocked facilities of the centre's library that holds an up-to-date collection of language testing books and journals.
