Dr Žegarac's research interest is in the theory of human communication. He works within the cognitive framework provided by Relevance Theory, but he's also interested in social approaches to communication and culture.
In recent years the specific topics he has looked at include the implications of Relevance Theory for the analysis of lexical meaning, second language learning and ideological manipulation by newspaper language.
After obtaining a PhD in Linguistics from University College London (in 1991), he has worked as a Research Fellow in Communication Studies at Middlesex University (1993-5) and as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in General Linguistics at the University of Bedfordshire, where he is currently a Reader in Language and Communication.
