Profile
Sally Cornish, Senior Lecturer in Social Work
BA, CQSW, MSc, Practice Teaching Award

As
Programme Lead for the MSc in Social Work I am responsible for the day-to-day
running of the programme and various other aspects of course management and monitoring.
I am also Award Manager for the University Certificate in Preparation for Welfare, a small Programme but one which provides another route into a career in social care.
My teaching
is mainly within the Human Development, Community Care and Poverty modules although
I also have input elsewhere.
In my teaching I am able to draw on an extensive
practice career based in the community and in hospitals and which included work
across many groups of people who use social services with a particular focus on
childcare, disability and HIV/AIDS.
I am particularly interested in encouraging students to develop habits of critical reflection which will enhance both the service they are able to provide to vulnerable people and also the professional profile of social work.
In my work for both the Practice Teaching Award and subsequently the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education I have developed a particular interest in social work education which meets the needs of students from various cultures and hope to pursue this further.
