Profile

Professor Song Y. Yan, Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics

Song Yan

Professor Yan joined the University of Bedfordshire in 2006. He also held various visiting professorships at the University of Toronto, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Harvard University.

Song is a computer scientist as well as a mathematician whose primary research interests are in the intersection of Mathematics/Number Theory and Computer Science/Information Technology.

On the one hand, he is interested in applying mathematics (particularly number theory, abstract algebra and mathematical logic) to certain areas of computer science, including computational complexity, design and analysis of algorithms, public-key cryptography, information/network security, and formal methods of computing systems.

On the other hand, he is interested in applying modern computing techniques to solve problems in mathematics, particularly in number theory and algebra.

He was majored in both Computer Science and Mathematics, and obtained a Doctorate in Number Theory from the Dept of Mathematics at the University of York.
