Ed Hounslow, Head of Division of Language and Communication

Ed Hounslow

Ed has taught English language and linguistics for the institution for many years, and has been head of the Division since 2001. Previously he held the posts of Head of Department of Languages and Linguistics, and was briefly an Associate Dean (External Affairs).

Ed's areas of interest include EFL, TEFL, English Grammar, Phonetics and Phonology, materials development, language testing, Business English and ELT management. He also maintains an interest in literature, and teaches units on the History of English, and Literary Stylistics.

Ed is Course Manager for the MA in Applied Linguistics (TEFL), and the Summer Certificate in TEFL.

External Teaching and Examinership Experience

Ed’s external experience includes running short teacher training programmes in other universities, both in UK and overseas. He has extensive external examining experience including: Oman College of Administrators (English language BA), Sheffield Hallam - China operations (Foundation courses), Anglia Polytechnic University (Exchange field and TEFL), Trinity College London (Moderator for Certificate in TESOL), University of Portsmouth (MA and BA TEFL).
