TELAS is the University’s English Language matriculation test.

You will be invited to take a TELAS test if English is not your first or your main language, and you haven’t got a recognised English Language qualification.

If you already hold a current, recognised English Language qualification such as IELTS, you will not be asked to take TELAS. Go to Recognised English Language Qualifications.

TELAS is a diagnostic test designed to establish whether your abilities and skills in English are of an appropriate level for you to engage with your subject, your lecturers, fellow students and the local community.

This helps ensure that you benefit maximally from your course and that in turn you are able to make a positive contribution to the University.

If you come from a country where English is used as a second language the University needs to know how well you can use English in an academic learning environment. If you hold one of the recognised English language qualifications you may not be required to sit the test.

Please note that TELAS addresses the English Language requirement alone and is to be considered in conjunction with the normal academic qualifications for entry to the University.
