The Coordinating Chaplains

Andrew Goodman and Cass Howes

Bedford campus, Revd Cassandra Howes

I am an ordained Methodist Minister and have worked as a University chaplain in a number of different universities since 1987. I enjoy working with students and staff in an educational setting and I coordinate the SeedBeds team.

My career prior to entering ministry was in nursing, first as a psychiatric nurse then in general nursing and as an operating theatre sister.

I have certificates in art and design and art therapy and am keen to explore the links between spirituality and wellbeing, often using art materials.

I am an interfaith practitioner and am currently co-chair of the Bedford Council of Faiths and the Interfaith Adviser for the Beds. Herts. and Essex Methodist District.

I am interested in the interface between sport and spirituality and social work and spirituality and in introducing the practise of labyrinth walking into Learning and Teaching.

I am also a Bedfordshire emergency response volunteer.

When I am not doing all or some of the above I enjoy reading a good book.

I’m an Anglican priest and I coordinate the Treehouse team. As a diverse team we really like the buzz of meeting people with different cultures, faiths and beliefs and working on projects together to have fun, learn from each other and achieve things that are going to help make a better world.

Personally I started out as a social worker with children and families, including practice teaching, and then worked in training and human resources. I worked for 6 months as a chaplain at Aston University and I enjoyed working with staff and students so much I decided to become a chaplain.

I’m interested in storytelling, pilgrimage, Celtic Christianity and contemplative spirituality, inner healing, and working with dreams.

I enjoy activities with my family and friends such as eating out, camping, cycling, swimming, walking my dog Finn and watching films, a bit of gardening. I like making websites, and tinkering with guitar and hand-drumming on the bodhran and djembe. I also serve on the management committee of a small charity.
