Working with us

Partnership working

The aim of the Tilda Goldberg Centre is to build the evidence base for social work and social care practice thereby improving the interventions with, and outcomes for, service users.

This will only be possible through building strong partnerships with social work and social care professionals, service users and academics both within and outside of social work and social care.

The Centre is therefore keen to work in partnership with a range of individuals and professionals who feel that the focus and methodology of the Centre fits with their own interests and who are open to mutual learning and growth.

Opportunities for partnerships include:

  • Collaborative research with academics from other disciplines and institutions
  • Social work and social care agencies interested in evaluative research and/or exploratory interventions and who are willing to commit to research involvement
  • Service users interested in joining different Project Advisory Groups. This will mean different levels of involvement for different projects and will require a range of skills and interests. Therefore we welcome people who have both experience of research participation and those who are new to it.
  • Joint hosting of events between institutions or professional bodies

In addition the Tilda Goldberg Centre offers the following forthcoming initiatives to encourage partnership working and exchange of expertise:

Research Fellowships for new and mid-career social work academics.

These will be awarded on a competitive basis to work on a project relevant to the focus and methodology of the TGC. Funding equivalent to one term’s teaching buyout will be provided. Click here for further information on our year 1 research fellowship.

International scholarships

This will allow UK researchers to visit foreign centres of research excellence or provide for leading experts to visit, and work with, the Tilda Goldberg Centre. The 2011 International Fellow was the world-renowned Professor William R. Miller - the co-originator of Motivational Interviewing.

This is a video of Bill discussing his visit and the work of the Centre.

Two scholarships a year are available for Masters students studying Social Work at the University of Bedfordshire. The students are given an opportunity to work with us on existing research projects.
