| Programme title: | Accident and Emergency: Dealing with Minor Injuries |
| Apply: | direct to the University via the NHS Business Unit |
| Start (pt): | February |
| Mode: | part-time |
| Duration: | 1 semester |
| Location: | Buckinghamshire campus, Aylesbury |
| Faculty: | Faculty of Health & Social Sciences |
The unit will assist you in the development of your minor injuries skills in line with current Government and regional requirements (for example FEN RCN competencies, Trust procedures and protocols).
Utilising a work based learning approach you will be supported in identifying areas of your minor injuries practice which you wish to enhance. You will be encouraged to develop the knowledge and skills to become a competent minor injuries practitioner within your current role.
The aim of the unit is to challenge your thinking and assumptions about the provision of minor injuries care. You will be given an overview of common injuries to increase your understanding of assessment and treatment. You will be encouraged to examine the links between current research and developments in minor injuries care and develop your skills in order to meet these requirements.
From a work based learning perspective, it is not possible for the module/course leader to arbitrarily set a definitive reading list. For each topic you will be guided towards appropriate learning resources.
Lists of definitive resources might include;
Brown A (1996) Accident and Emergency diagnosis and management Butterworth Press London
Dolan B, Holt L (2000) Accident and Emergency theory into practice Bailliere Tindall London
Epstein O Perkin D De Bono D Cookson J, (2000) Clinical examination second edition Mosby London
Hinchcliff S, Montague S, Watson R, (1996) Physiology for nursing practice second edition Bailliere Tindal London
Wilson J, Waugh A, (1998) Anatomy and physiology in health and illness Churchill Livingstone, London
It is available to all health professionals who are working within a minor injuries area/unit.
