| Programme title: | Acute Management of Patients with Spinal Cord Injury |
| Apply: | direct to the University via the NHS Business Unit |
| Start (pt): | September |
| Mode: | part-time |
| Duration: | 1 semester |
| Location: | Buckinghamshire campus, Aylesbury |
| Faculty: | Faculty of Health & Social Sciences |
It is estimated that between 500 and 700 people sustain a traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) each year in the UK. The effects are usually permanent and currently there is no cure (Harrison 2000).
Transection of the spinal cord results in considerable pathophysiological and psychosocial changes. This unit provides knowledge, skills and research-based evidence to enable practitioners to respond to the needs of acute spinal cord injured patients and their families
Learning will be supported through a work focused approach. This will take place through lecturer and mentor facilitation of self-assessment in relation to the learning outcomes of the unit.
The learning experience will consist of 5 classroom contact sessions for specialist lectures, tutorials and seminars. Part of the learning experience will occur through self-directed learning and students will be expected to access the University’s on line learning tool – Breo which will provide links to other on-line resources and materials
