Summary

The aim of this unit is to support you in the development of your knowledge and understanding of project management within the context of the workplace.

This unit will provide you with an understanding of project management techniques when used as a generic management tool. It enables you to appreciate the importance of project management for the team and the organisation as a whole.

It will enable you to identify the scope and boundaries of project management, develop a project strategy, including setting success criteria, and establish a suitable governance and support structure for a project in your workplace.

This unit prepares students for more responsibility within their role.

Teaching/learning methods and strategies

The learning experience consists of five classroom contact sessions. During these sessions there will be lecturer-led discussions and small group activities. Learning will also occur through self-directed study.

The University’s online learning tool, BREO (Bedfordshire Resources for Education On-line), will be available to students studying this module. This will provide links to other online learning sources and materials.

Assessment

The unit is assessed through two written assignments, including a portfolio of evidence demonstrating development of the student’s understanding of project management principles.

Entry requirements

If taken as part of the University Advanced Diploma in Management & Leadership for Health & Social Services with CMI accreditation, this unit is only open to health and social care employees working within, or aspiring to, a middle management role.
