Course Summary

For those seeking a career in accounting or finance, this course provides you with the perfect foundations for success.

During the first stage of the course you will spend most of your time in our state-of-the-art learning facilities, where our unique approach includes an emphasis on 'doing' rather than 'listening'. And this unique approach is also supported by the latest technology so that you can understand the theory of accounting as well as its practicalities and uses through software packages.

In the second and third stages of the course your study will lead to more advanced areas such as financial and management accounting, taxation, financial management and auditing. You will also have the opportunity to complete a supervised research dissertation investigating contemporary issues in accounting, which ensures your knowledge is at the forefront of the industry.

Why choose this course?

After graduating from the Accounting course, our students often secure roles in areas such as auditing, accounting practice, management accountancy, banking, financial management and management consultancy. The course leaves you with a wide variety of options as well as the maximum possible exemptions from the professional exams of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

During the course you will:

  • Enjoy a well-structured introduction to accounting without the pressure of repetitive learning or professional examination
  • Learn from highly-qualified teaching staff with a great depth of industry experience
  • Be given the opportunity to develop a wide range of employability and technical skills
  • Enjoy the flexibility of transferring study to Business Studies, Human Resource Management, International Finance, Marketing or Public Relations at the end of stage 1
  • Be given the opportunity to attend two annual careers events run purely for student benefit

Areas of study you may cover on this course include:

  • Accounting and financial reporting
  • Management accounting for decision making
  • Tax computation and analysis
  • Financial and non-financial performance management
  • Auditing and corporate governance
  • Financial management

UK students Undergraduate entry requirements

Standard entry requirements for Foundation degrees (FD/FdSc)

A foundation degree will be of particular interest if you have completed a Modern Apprenticeship, vocational A levels, BTEC National or equivalent.

Foundation degrees are also particularly suitable if you want to qualify while working.

  • As a guideline, a typical offer would require you to obtain a UCAS tariff score of between 80-120 points, based on your level 3 studies.
  • Students who require a Tier 4 Student Visa cannot apply for our foundation courses. For these courses the University of Bedfordshire is not able to sponsor Tier 4 Student Visa applications.

Many students studying for foundation degrees come to us through work-based routes so you can apply for a foundation degree even if you don’t have traditional academic qualifications.

We welcome applicants with relevant work experience.

Standard entry requirements for Undergraduate degrees (BA/BSc)

We will consider you as an individual and take into account all elements of your application, not just your qualifications. We are looking for both breadth and depth in your current studies as well as enthusiasm for the subject you wish to study.
