"Foreign Direct Investment in Post-Sanctions Libya: Evidence from the Perceptions of Foreign Investors and Experts" supervised by Prof. Magdy Abdel-Kader.
The author's motivation behind doing this research is the fact that there have not been specific studies on the business environment in the context of New Libya, in which the experiences and perspective of the foreign investors are taken into account.
The main purpose of this research is to consider the motives for engaging in FDI in Libya, the perceived performance of foreign ventures, issues in the management of the ventures, and the lessons for potential investors in Libya. The research will be based on the analysis of interviews with senior expatriate managers of nine foreign ventures in Libya.
This research contributes to the discourse of FDI in the context of economies in transition by drawing upon the case of Libya. The Libyan experience may have a wider relevance to other similar developing countries undergoing economic transition and seeking to attract FDI and encourage development strategies. Therefore, insights will be suggested into the policy-making and management of FDI in Libya which may have a wider scope of applicability to other countries beyond the particular circumstances of the Libyan case. Moreover, the study of FDI has traditionally been implemented using a quantitative approach. Thus it would be interesting to find out the qualitative perception of foreign firms in transitional economies.
