"I am now working at the University of Luton in the admissions department."
Miriam Magugu, originally from Kenya, has just finished a three-year BA (Hons) Accounting degree, and is currently working within the Clearing Office.
“I came to the University of Luton through Clearing,” explained Miriam. “I came over here to take my A Levels at a school in Somerset and applied to university through UCAS. I was offered a place at Bradford but didn’t want to accept it, so I waited and decided to go through the Clearing process.
“I had some friends at Luton already and they’d said it was a good place to live and study. I wanted to study something finance-based – accounting, economics – something like that, so decided to do an Accounting degree.”
Miriam, who has worked part-time throughout her course, said that one of the best things about her three years in Luton is the people she’s met. “I’ve made some great friends, one of whom I’m moving to London with at the end of the summer.
“I’m going to an east London College to study for one more year, in order to gain my Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification. I then have to complete a three year training programme before I can practice as an accountant.”
Interview took place in 2004.
