Anthony McGrath

Profile

Anthony McGrath, Principal Lecturer

Anthony McGrath

I initially trained in the field of mental health nursing before undertaking general nursing at St Mary’s hospital Paddington.

I have gained a great deal of clinical experience throughout my career having worked in acute mental health, crisis intervention, coronary care, A&E, general medicine in the fields of Gastroenterology, endocrinology, respiratory medicine and HIV. I qualified as a nurse teacher in 1993 and began my teaching career in 1994.

I have gained a wide a range of teaching experience both at City University and Middlesex University.  I am also a nursing officer in the TA and have recently served in Iraq working in both British and American field hospitals caring for injured patients.

Teaching interests

I have taught at both pre-registration and post registration levels and have developed a wide range of clinically focused courses.

I am very interested in advanced practice and I have a keen interest in developing and expanding the role of nurses and their skills.

In my previous posts I have been involved in the development of Masters level physical assessment programs as well as clinically focused courses in the field of Gastroenterology and stoma care.

Research interests

My research interests are varied; however my most recent project has explored “Risk Management in stoma care”, a large three year project that incorporated both qualitative and quantitative methods.  This project was collaboration with the Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and was partly funded by a grant from Hollister.
