Bernadette Henderson, Senior Lecturer

Bernadette Henderson

Bernadette specializes in children’s nursing, neonatal care and management and leadership, particularly communication, change and collaborative project management.

Qualified in 1982 as a State Registered Nurse and Sick Children's Nurse, has worked in specialities at the Royal Pendlebury Children's Hospital and St Mary's Hospital Neonatal Unit in Manchester before taking up roles as Sister and Clinical Tutor at the Neonatal Unit at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital NHS Trust.

In 1991 was appointed Senior Lecturer at the (now) University of Bedfordshire.

She has a Certificate in Education (1990) and an MBA in Business Administration (1993) and has contributed to Children’s Home’s research studies.

Bernadette works with practitioners and students to design, deliver and evaluate diploma and degree level pre and post-Registration nursing modules encompassing research appreciation and current professional practice.

Bernadette’s specific neonatal experience includes:

  • External Examiner for National Neonatal masters and degree level programmes
  • Neonatal Nurses Association executive Board and Education Group member
  • Draeger Educational Scholarship administrator
  • Chair and presenter at several UK Neonatal Conferences
  • Presenter at the International Neonatal Conference in Sydney in 2001
  • Royal College of Medicine: Maternity and Newborn Forum member
  • British Lung Foundation: Baby Breathe Easy project member
  • Member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Neonatal Nursing
