Jane Merritt

Senior Lecturer

Jane Merritt

Post-qualification as a Registered Nurse, much of my clinical experience and education focused on intensive care nursing. In the 1970s I spent several years in Sydney, NSW, and Western Australia, working in intensive care units and with the elderly in a community hospital, as well as travelling around Australia for pleasure.

On my return to the UK I took up post as Sister-in-Charge of the newly-commissioned Intensive Care Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

I started teaching in the early 1980s. My teaching experience since joining the University includes several years as Programme Manager for the Pre-registration Nursing Programme, during which I led a team who took the curriculum through two major reviews and approvals.

I teach both pre-qualification and post-qualification students, at diploma and degree levels. Within the Pre-registration Nursing course I am a member of the year one teaching team and I also teach in year three of the adult field.
