Janet Cox

Senior Lecturer

I worked extensively in nursing within the UK from 1972-1986 and  had a range of experiences in midwifery and in the acute hospital setting, including cardio-thoracics and oncology and radiotherapy. I also worked for a period on night duty in which I gained experience in most types of nursing in an acute general hospital.

In 1986 I joined the Bedfordshire School of Nursing as a lecturer and then, moved with the department into the University in 1991. Since being with the University I have had responsibilities for both pre and post registration nursing courses. I also am link lecturer to a range of clinical areas in the community, nursing homes and at South Wing Hospital Bedford.

  • Course leader for post registration units/ pathway in diabetes care, elderly care and long term conditions.

Research Interests

My research interests relate to the care of older people and I have been involved in:

  • Studies with the local authority in relation to user views on a social centre
  • Partnerships for older people research evaluating services for older people with dementia

Recent Research Projects:

  • Exploring the views of student nurses caring for older people with dementia in the acute setting.
  • Reviewer for Oxford University Press.
