I qualified as State Registered Nurse at the Hammersmith Hospital, following clinical experience as a staff nurse in Orthopaedics, General Surgery and Haematology and as a Surgical and Orthopaedic Ward Sister I entered Nurse Education as a Clinical Teacher.
During a 12 year career break in which I had my 3 children I completed a BA (Honours) Degree in Sociology at the Polytechnic of North London (now London Metropolitan University) and undertook a full time MSc in Sociology at the London School of Economics funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.I work closely with colleagues at a partner further education college as link tutor to a Foundation Degree in Complementary Therapy.
I enjoy teaching and am enthusiastic about the subjects I teach seeing my role as one of supporting and encouraging students enabling them to achieve their potential.
My research interests are primarily concerned with Nursing and the Body. I have given many conference papers nationally and internationally, the last in 2006 ‘Nursing and the Changing Narratives of the Dead Body’ considered how nurses manage the procedure of Last Offices.
Outside of work my interests include travel, reading (I belong to a book group) and gardening I am also kept very busy by my 3 grandchildren.
