Philip Beckwith

Profile

Philip Beckwith, Senior Teaching Fellow

I trained at Charing Cross hospital and The Westminster hospital graduating from the Riverside College of Health Care Studies. I then had clinical appointments at the Westminster Children’s Hospital, Chelsea & Westminster hospital, St Vincent’s orthopaedic hospital, The Lister hospital, Addenbrooke’s hospital and Hinchingbrooke hospital. My clinical interests include paediatric anaesthesia, resuscitation, minimally invasive surgery and trauma. 

Teaching commitments

I teach on the Diploma of Higher Education in Operating Department Practice pathway, and I am the program manager for the BSc (Hons) Perioperative Critical Care and the BSc (Hons) Nursing studies (theatre) pathways.

Research interests

In 2006 I was awarded a Senior Teaching Fellowship at the University of Bedfordshire for my research into the integration of the Virtual Learning Environment with Clinical Simulation and its integration with distance learning access and the development of extended e learning packages.

Other research undertaken includes; the pedagogy of blended learning and its development within the Diploma Higher of Education (Operating Department Practice) pathway. A further study in 2007 was entitled Communal constructivism does it exist within the Diploma Higher of Education (Operating Department Practice) pathway. A further study of the introduction of reflective study to health care education in North America was completed in 2008.
