I qualified as a Children’s Nurse at the Buckinghamshire School of Nursing and Midwifery in 1996.
My particular area of interest is Children’s Community Nursing where I have worked for most of my career as a Children’s nurse.
My areas of interest include oncology, dermatology, enteral feeding and nursing children with special needs.
I joined the University of Bedfordshire in 2006 as a Practice Educator for the Child branch.
I cover a variety of paediatric practice placements across Buckinghamshire, in both the hospital and community settings.
My role includes being a link between the University of Bedfordshire and the mentors in practice, networking, sharing good practice and developing new ideas
I visit students in these practice areas to support their development as well as offering support to the mentors not only with student issues, but with their own professional development.
This is an aspect of my role I enjoy immensely.
I am involved in delivering skills to students in both CFP and child branch, and supporting my academic colleagues with planning and delivering lectures.
I keep myself updated on changes in clinical practice by attending study days, liaising with colleagues in health, university and private sectors.
