Dawn Hesketh-Joslin

Profile

Dawn Hesketh-Joslin, Lecturer in Interior Design and Interior Architecture

Dawn Hesketh-Joslin

I graduated as a ‘Spatial Designer’ from the University of the Creative Arts in 1987, and have since worked in both architectural practice and design consultancies in London and Internationally.

I was an Associate Director at  London consultancies:  Rodney Fitch + Company and Kracka Design Consultants.

I have  worked at JHP,  Barr Gazetas Architects,  Lewis and Hickey Architects, Newman Levinson Architects,  Fitch and Campbell Rigg.

My work has focused mainly on commercial retail design and the application of 'brand' in the built environment. I have also designed retail, restaurants, bars, clubs, museums and offices.

My work has taken me to sites in Europe, China, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.

Projects include: The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Wellington Museum, Virgin Clubs, Heaven, Boots, Marks and Spencer,  De Bijenkorf, Thames Water, and Fortress.

My designs and built solutions featured in journals including The Architects Journal, Building Design Magazine, Design Week, FX, INT.EFFX, Time Out and The Independent.

I began teaching in 2004, and have taught at Canterbury School of Architecture, The Interior Design School London, Milton Keynes College and The University of Northampton.

I have been a member of the teaching team at The University of Bedfordshire since 2007.

My responsibilities here are tutor on both BA (Hons) Interior Design and BA (Hons) Interior Architecture courses, in particular developing, running and coordinating the 'Year One' units.

My current academic research includes, a collaborative piece of work, with BA (Hons)
Contemporary Theatre practice tutors and students from The University of Bedfordshire,  Bedford campus.

This "Making Performance" project will be exploring the ideas generated  by differing 'creative people' - second year spatial design students, second year contemporary theatre practice students (directors) and first year contemporary theatre practice students (actors).

With the end product being live 'designed' performance.

I intend this piece of research to feed into my M(Res) which I am about to begin this academic year.
