I am a registered architect and founder member of the design consultancy Fuzzy Architecture.
Having graduated from Portsmouth School of Architecture in 1982, I worked in private practice before beginning, in 1992, a teaching career at what is now the University of Bedfordshire. I also taught at the Open University between 1991 and 2002, and have a guest critic at the University of Valencia, the University of East London, the University of Portsmouth and De Montfort University.
I was a visiting tutor at the Technical University of Bratislava between 2004 and 2006. I am now External Examiner for Birmingham City University’s Design Studies programme, and for the Foundation Degree in Interior Spatial Design at Somerset College of Arts and Technologies.
My current responsibilities at the University of Bedfordshire include running the Interior Architecture and Interior Design honours degrees, and being Academic Director to the Field of Art and Design.
I am a Bedfordshire Teaching Fellow, in recognition of my innovative approaches to teaching and learning, and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
My research focuses on approaches art and design education, and particularly on cross- and inter-disciplinary approaches to teaching and learning.
I have presented and published papers at Nottingham Trent University, the Institute of Advanced Architectural Studies at the University of York, and the University of Central England in Birmingham (now Birmingham City University, and I am to present at the International Interior Educators conference on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 March 2012, and at the Third International Conference on the Image in Poznan, Poland, between 14 September 2012 and 16 September 2012.
In 2001 I gained an MPhil for my research project “Self Build: Towards More Effective Strategies for Procuring Self Build Dwellings for Young People in Housing Need”. I am currently working on a Professional Doctorate, exploring innovative approaches to hand drawing in art and design education.
