Rebecca Meanley

Lecturer in Fine Art

Rebecca holds an MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art and a PGCE: Teaching in HE from University of the Arts, London.

She is a London based artist, alongside her part-time role as Lecturer in Fine Art and Lecturer in Visual Art Practice at the University of Bedfordshire.

Her recent solo show ‘Drawn In’ in Nov-Dec 2011 at The Hat Factory in Luton showed together for the first time a series of her paintings all made in 2011.

Rebecca has exhibited in a number of group shows and open competitions in London and the wider UK, as well as taking part in Open Studios.

She has also initiated, organised, curated or co-curated several shows in recent years including inertia in 2007, Final Fling in 2008 and One Night Stand in 2009.

Recent selected exhibitions in London include Sexy100 (2011) curated by Vanya Balogh, Artsworks Open selected by Graham Crowley and Timothy Hyman (3 years running 2011, 2010, 2009) and Miniscule exhibition 2010, curated and selected by Vanya Balogh.

Rebecca initiated and leads a Peer/Group Critique at the Barbican Arts Group Trust studios where both established and emerging artists take part. She also participates in a Critique group organised by Stephanie Moran, co-founder/selector of the Marmite Prize for Painting.

Rebecca’s own practice as a painter and her research interests require her to be informed of relevant Modernist and Post modernist branches of contemporary theory and key debates in Painting, specifically in Abstraction.

She regularly participates in ‘Abstract Critical’, a critical circle involving panel discussions, critical debates, exhibitions, talks and openings, led by renowned artists, critics and writers.
