There are four main strands of research in the Department of Applied Social Studies, located in the Child and Family Welfare Research Unit, the Vauxhall Centre for the Study of Crime, the Vulnerable Young People Research Unit and the the Social Work, Professional Practice and Law Research Unit. Each is part of the faculty's Institute of Applied Social Research (IASR). Please visit the IASR for more information.
Staff working within IASR and the Department of Applied Social Studies maintain regional, national and international consultancy links with governments, public sector organisations, legal practices, research active institutions, and therapeutic communities. We provide, for example, expert witness reports for court on single cases through to consultations on the shape and delivery of effective public services within the range of our existing expertise.
