Camille Warrington

Young People's Participation Development Officer

I am based within the International Centre for Sexually Exploited and Trafficked Young People where I take a lead on developing children and young people’s participation. My research interests centre on the engagement of those traditionally excluded from decision making processes; in particular children’s involvement in research and on developing service provision. My work focuses on socially excluded children and young people and in particular those affected by sexual exploitation. I am currently undertaking a professional doctorate exploring young people’s experience of sexual exploitation support services and their engagement in choice and decision making.

As part of my role I manage a number of young people’s advisory and consultation groups relating to departmental research interests. I am member of the management group for the National Working Group for Sexually Exploited Children and Young People (NWG)  and I am actively involved in the Council of Europe’s campaign to prevent sexual violence against children.

Current project work includes contributing to the Association of Young People’s Health, ‘Be healthy initiative’ which delivers health advocate training to young people affected by sexual exploitation; and research for the inquiry for the Office of the Children’s Commissioner for England (OCC) on the links between sexual violence and gangs. As part of the OCC research I am leading a participatory project across England supporting young people to develop creative responses to issues raised by the inquiry. Other recent work has included being part of the team completing a two year review of LSCB’s responses to sexually exploited children.

Prior to my current role I spent two years coordinating the National Working Group for Sexually Exploited Children and Young People. I am trained youth worker and I have worked in a variety of voluntary and statutory sector projects both as a practitioner and researcher including leaving care teams, youth services, and provision for young Gypsy and Travellers.
