Frances Gander, Senior Lecturer in Social Work

Frances Gander

In 1987 I gained a B.Ed. Honours in Youth and Community Studies and Social Education. I qualified as social worker in 2000 and gained my Practice Teaching Award in 2001.

I have 19 years of experience of working with children, young people and their families in a variety of settings; statutory and voluntary, residential and community, both in America and in the U.K.

I have managed adolescent residential units, recruited trained and supported foster carers and teams of sessional workers.

Most recently I have managed an NCH [The Children’s Charity] Family Support Project and set up and delivered a Family Group Conferencing Project.

I joined the University in September 2006. My particular areas of interest are equality and diversity, social work practice / social work with children, young people and their families and reflective practice.

I have responsibility for the level three Working with Children Young People and Families [Interventions] module and the Reflective Practice module.

I have shared responsibility for the level 3 Cross Cultural Perspectives module and I share responsibility for the Level 2 Working with Children, Young People and Families [Core Concepts] module.

I have shared responsibility for the development, within the new award framework, for the Post Qualifying Child Care Pathway.
