In addition to being the award manager for the Child and Adolescent Studies programme I am a Senior Lecturer on the team for the Foundation degree in Youth & Community Studies.
I have a real
energy and enthusiasm for my role as award manager. I have worked with both children and adolescents for almost thirty years. My considerable experience
in this field has led me into teaching.
I am a youth worker and counsellor by profession
although I have been employed within education for most of my career. This
began when I had the opportunity to work with woman returning to education. Having
had the chance to return to study myself, this was important to me.
I taught assertiveness training for a number of years with adults and counselling
courses for ten years.
I feel communication skills are a vital part of working with both children and adolescents. Fairness and equality for all are qualities which are close to my heart.
Within the
department, I have a further role as a key liaison contact. I liaise with staff in local colleges who are running University of Bedfordshire validated Foundation degrees in Early Years and
Child and Adolescent Studies.
I also liaise with staff at the Kensington Consultation Centre Foundation (KCCF) who teach and administer postgraduate courses in Systemic Therapy and Systemic Leadership and Organisation Studies in several countries.
My teaching
interests are intrinsically linked to my values and beliefs.
I am interested in
furthering the self awareness, personal and professional development of
individual students.
I therefore particularly enjoy teaching course modules such as Counselling and Communication Skills, Personal and Professional Career Development and Current Issues.
