Teaching interests
I teach units on Criminological Theory, Youth Justice Group Offending, Gangs and Violent Crime and Research Methods to students on undergraduate courses and those pursuing Professional Doctorates.
Research interests
My research interests concern youth crime and youth justice and in the past few years I have been researching violent youth gangs in London and the North of England.
I have presented papers on these issues at conferences in England, mainland Europe, The USA and China.
I am currently working with the Children’s Commissioner for England and several London local authorities on issues of young people, gangs and violent crime.
I was a cousultant to the Centre for Social Justice on their inquiry into youth gangs, published as Dying to Belong in 2009, and a member of the Prime Minister’s ‘gang summit’ in 2011. I am presently a member of the Home Office gang strategy’s expert advisory group.
