BA (Hons) Applied Social Science, CQSW, Practice Teaching Award, MA Social Policy, ILM Diploma in Management PGCert Academic Practice.
I graduated in 1986 and embarked on a career in Social Work, with an emphasis on children and families. In 2004 I completed my MA in Social Policy.
Prior to joining the University in April 2007 I had spent 3 years Managing Buckinghamshire County Council’s Adoption Support Service, during this time I completed the ILM Diploma in Management.
My current position is Course Lead for Post Qualifying Social Work. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
My teaching interests encompass Children and Families Social Work, Supervision
in Social Work Practice and Reflective Social Work Practice. I also have a
particular interest in Adoption and Fostering and Children in Care.
In my
teaching I am able to draw upon 20 years of social work experience in, child
protection, fostering and adoption and service management.
My main professional interests have been in developing multi-disciplinary team approaches, preventative child care, and group work with all those affected by adoption.
My experience leads me to have an academic and professional interest in developing social work student’s ability to use critical reflection, to enhance their theory and practice integration, and most importantly their interventions with service users.
My primary research interests are in the field of emotional intelligence, emotional resilience and resilience in social workers and how these relate to the wellbeing of social workers and improved outcomes for Service Users.
I have been involved in collaborative research projects focusing on the emotional demands of social work I am currently involved in a number of collaborative projects researching issues relating to emotional intelligence reflective practice and wellbeing in social workers. This research will be the subject of my Phd studies.
