Profile

Margaret Ellis, Senior Lecturer in Social Work

Margaret Ellis

I qualified as a Social Worker in 1988, as an ASW (Approved Social Worker) in 1990, and as a Practice Teacher in 1992.

I am an experienced practitioner in mental health services, both with service users of working age, and with people over the age of 65, having been a specialist social worker in the dementia services.

I have managed residential care settings for older people, and for older people with a diagnosis of dementia.

I continue to satisfy my interest in dementia care by working as a volunteer with the local Alzheimer’s Society in my home town of Luton.

Previously I worked in the Learning & Development Team at Luton Borough Council, commissioning and developing training courses for their employees, across adult and children’s services, both for qualified and unqualified staff within the social care setting.

I am a mentor and assessor on the Post Qualifying Award “Advance” PQ consortium.

I joined the University in May 2006 and have the lead on modules for mental health issues.

I am currently studying the Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education.
