I
am responsible for core criminological theory at level two.
My teaching
areas are the theoretical issues surrounding the factors that generate crime
and offending and policies of control.
I have designed an
interdisciplinary third year module 'Crime, Violence and Contemporary Society'
a criminology option at level three.
I am also responsible for supervising dissertation students at level three.
My
academic background is grounded in part-time distance teaching, having
experienced this from both sides at the Open University.
I am committed to interdisciplinary working and teaching as well as enhancing my skills in teaching students from all academic backgrounds and from a variety of ages and ethnic backgrounds.
At
the Open University I was responsible for teaching at first, second and third
level courses.
In addition I have had much administrative responsibility
in the regions where I have worked, mentoring new tutors, organising Day Schools
and running teaching and learning skills development modules for
colleagues.
I have also been involved in Action Research at the Open University.
At the University my teaching involves a considerable
amount of specialist knowledge of criminology, criminal justice, media
students, penology and social policy.
My experience with long distance learners has provided me with the skills to generate an understanding of and enthusiasm for the subjects I teach, utilizing a range of teaching methods.
